Statins Plus ZKPr

Selected combined effects of Simvastatin (SV), a widely used statin, and ZKPr on metabolism in obese mice (n=7)

SD=standard diet provided continuously (42 days); HFD=high fat diet provided continuously (42 days); TG=triglyceride; T. cholesterol=total cholesterol; LDL-C=LDL-cholesterol; Muscle proteins (mg per 100 mg of dry weight); S. Insulin=serum insulin. Treatments were with subcutaneous 2 mg/1-kg body weight of ZKPr weekly (3-times between days 21-42)) and with intraperitoneal 0.5 mg/1-kg body weight Simvastatin (SV) daily (between days 21-42). On day 21, HFD fed mice were already obese (34-36 grams) and diabetic (~8 mM blood glucose).
